This pretty young Cambodian woman was happy to pose for the camera…
…despite the fact that she was knee deep in a bin while shovelling waste and rubbish into the larger bin behind her.
Daily income? About $2 a day.

… and it’s International Women’s day today! Just how far have we come 😦
The main feature in
Phnom Penh on Women’s Day was armed police beating back protestors demanding a stop to violence against women.
Reblogged this on A Duck in Cambodia.
Very interesting double perspective here, both photographic and cultural.
Hey,thanks Elizabeth!

She is beautiful and courageous
Grace. That is what she had,Hopje. I took a few photos of her and daughter; she was quite happy for me to do so but as I had taken her from her work I gave her 10,000 riel ($2.50). She slipped it into her pocket, gave a shy smile and went right back to work.
Always crazy to think how 2.5$ is not much for us and so much for them
We have a lot of women like her in our country too. I salute all women who work hard for their families. This is by far the best entry I’ve seen. 🙂 Nice shot, nice message. Pretty model… Kudos!
Thanks so much.Like in many countries it is the women of Cambodia who carry the load…

This is a super interpretation of perspective for me… the lovely woman – and then the second picture and the work she does. Wow! Mind blowing – terrific perspective. Also the perspective of the money values… Coral
It’s something I don’t think that I will ever forget, Carol.
Here too we see women busy working at construction site such hard work, many pass by our house ,we exchange smiles, and many a time I see them going by laughing and talking. They must be earning so less but life is what we make of it. Thanks for sharing your photo.
