Kanom Pang Ping

Thonburi, Thailand

Thonburi, Thailand

Grilled toast, margarine*, an unhealthy sprinkling of sugar. Condensed milk over top if you want it. And cheap as chips. What’s not to like?

This simple breakfast-Kanom pang ping- was once common on the streets of Thailand. But it’s a little harder to find now.

*Most descriptions of Kanom pang ping say butter, not margarine is used. I’d be surprised if that were the case: butter is much more expensive- and this is a cheap snack- and the spread is slathered on in a way that butter cannot be.
