Intricate: Cambodian Bamboo Bridge

Kampong Cham Province, Cambodia

Kampong Cham Province, Cambodia

This all-bamboo-bridge begins on the Kampong Cham side of the the Mekong river and reaches out to the large island of Koh Paen. The citizens of Koh Paen fish and grow small crops, including tobacco.

The bridge is, I guess, about 1km in length.

Walking across I saw people on foot, several horses and carts, cyclists, many motorcyclists, a few cars, and a small truck.

Later in the year, when the rainy season comes, the bridge is party washed away (and presumably parts are also dismantled) and it is built again once the waters have fallen.

How fascinating. A bamboo bridge seems like a good strategy for an area that floods regularly, easier to repair than wood or concrete, maybe cheaper too? The first photo is beautiful, great composition with the sky blue corner.
